Next week in Math...

*Class 1 will be completing their unit and having a test on Tuesday and Wednesday. Be on the lookout for a review sheet to come home Friday. On Thursday we are going to have a great time competing against each other over topics we have learned so far this year.

*Class 2 will complete their unit on Wednesday and have their test on Thursday. Their review sheet will come home on Tuesday.

*Class 3 will continue working on expressions, equations, and patterns.
Important News for Next Friday...

On Friday, December 16th, we will be participating in the 2011 Highland Christmas Classic Basketball Tournament. Below you will find the schedule for the day.

We will have our third Math Marathon this Friday. This is an exciting way for our kids to stay fresh on their basic calculation skills. If you haven't heard about this, talk with your child. You can help by reviewing the steps for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems. Then, give them some problems to practice!
Just a friendly reminder that birthday party invitations are not allowed to be distributed at school. For further information on this topic, please refer to the student handbook. Thanks for your help in this matter!
This week in Math...

Class 1 will be working with factors and multiples and learning how to tell is a number is prime or composite.
Class 2 will be working with expressions and equations this week.
Class 3 had their division test Today. Unfortunately, the results were not good. Please be on the lookout for the test - it will be coming home this afternoon. Students in this class will have the opportunity to make corrections to their test and bring it back with a parent signature for partial credit on the test. After that, they will begin working with expressions and equations.

Next Week in Math
Tomorrow all classes will be participating in the Math Marathon. If you haven't heard about this - talk with your child! This is a great way to stay fresh on adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.

On Monday, all classes will finish their centers from today. Class 1 is working with algebraic expressions and equations. Classes 2 and 3 are still working on division.

Next Week in Math!
Class 1 will be working on solving multi-step word problems. Later in the week we will be learning about factors, multiples, and prime and composite numbers.
Class 2 will have their division test on Tuesday. After that, they will begin working on solving multi-step words problems too.
Class 3 will be working on division with one divisor and up to four dividends. This skill requires a lot of practice. Please help your child at home! Thanks!

Below you will find our plans for next week in each class. Please remember that these plans are subject to change. We try to plan as closely as possible, but occasionally, we have sudden changes to our schedules.

Math
– Classes 1 and 2 will have their test over division on Friday. This will cover dividing up to 4 digits by 1 digit. On Wednesday, we will begin our unit on algebraic thinking. Class 3 had their test over 2 digit by digit multiplication today. On Friday, they will complete an open response and take a pretest for division.

Science – This short week in Science we will be finishing up our soil unit and taking a test. Folders will come home tomorrow, Fri., Nov. 4th. Our test will be Thursday, Nov. 10. Students have been working hard on their articles about Falls of the Ohio and we will continue those on Friday.


Reading – Spanish continues, as does our research and writing. We are hitting several key skills for 4th grade with this, including gathering and organizing information, informative writing, cooperative group skills, as well as speaking using audio/visual aids and listening. We will be wrapping this project up and doing or presentations next week. In lieu of homework, please have your child spend a few minutes daily reading material of their choice. Pizza Hut pizzas are available for the month of November as well.



Social Studies – Next week we will be discussing the importance of Veteran’s Day. We will also be writing friendly letters to Veteran’s that are staying in the VA hospital in Lexington and Louisville to show our respect and gratitude.

Today's visit

We had a wonderful lesson with Mrs. Lynch and Mrs. Bunnell from the Celtic Academy today. We learned about equations using program called "Hands on Equations." This was a cool program and we will definitely be using more of this in the weeks to come. A BIG thank you to Mrs. Lynch and Mrs. Bunnell for spending the morning with us and a BIG thank you to the students for being so wonderful and attentive!

We've had a great week in Math! We've learned how to read and write numbers in standard form, name form, and expanded form all the way up to the millions place. March 28th - April 1st

Next week classes 1 and 3 will begin learning about decimals. We will start out by relating them to fractions and by the end of the week, we will be comparing and ordering them. Classes 2 and 4 will wrap up their measurement unit with a test on Tuesday. We will complete a review and open response on Monday. After that, we will start on fractions.

Next week we will be IOWA testing as well...be sure you do your BEST! :)

For the Week of March 21st - 25th

Classes 1 and 3 will continue with fractions next week. We will wrap the unit up with a test on Thursday. Be watching for a study guide to come home on Tuesday or Wednesday!

Classes 2 and 4 will continue working on measurement. We will be working with the metric system and finding area and perimeter before we wrap up this unit. We will have a test on Friday. A study guide will come home on Wednesday or Thursday!

The week of March 14-18

Next week classes 1 and 3 will begin a unit on fractions. We will be discussing parts of a whole and parts of a set in the beginning of the week. Later we will be learning about equivalent fractions and how to order and compare them. Be on the lookout for homework every day next week!

Classes 2 and 4 will start their unit on measurement. We will learn about customary units of length and how to convert them. We will also talk about the metric system and how to find the perimeter of an object. This class will have homework this week too!

I challenge you all to make connections at home! Talk to your families about you use fractions and measurement at home. Find out how your parents might use these skills at work. We would love for you to report back to us at school!

March 7-11

First off, I want to apologize for my long absence on my blog! I've had some technical difficulties! I'm back now and here's what we have in store for next week.

Classes 1 and 3 - On Monday and Tuesday we will be working on finding the area and perimeter of objects. This will be a fun two days as we will be doing several hands-on activities. Talk to your families and see if there's ever been a time that you've had to find the area or perimeter for something at home! On Wednesday we will work with temperature and on Thursday we will have a test. It will cover customary units of measurement, converting customary units of measurement, the metric system, area, perimeter, and temperature. Look for a study guide to come home on Wednesday!

Classes 2 and 4 - These two classes will get to experience lots of hands-on activities too! On Monday we will learn to use ordered pairs to find and locate points on a grid. We have a giant coordinate plane on the floor in our classroom. We should have lots of fun being human points! On Tuesday we will learn about rotations, reflections, and translations. On Wednesday and Thursday we will discuss congruent figures and lines of symmetry. On Friday we will complete an open response.

Next week in math, classes 1 and 3 will be learning about lines, line segments, and rays. We will also be learning about using ordered pairs to find and name a point on a grid and identifying congruent figures and figures with symmetry. Classes 2 and 4 will continue working on expressions, equations, and function tables. These two classes will have a test on Wednesday over patterns, expressions, equations, and function tables.

Don't forget to complete your study island assignment! Your new assignment is due Friday, February 11th.

This Week in Math

This week classes 1 and 3 will be learning about triangles and quadrilaterals. We will have a test on Thursday over 2D shapes, 3D figures, angles, triangles, and quadrilaterals. Be on the lookout for a review sheet to come home on Wednesday! Classes 2 and 4 will be learning about equations and function tables. These two classes will have a quiz on Thursday over expressions and equations. Remember, all classes have an assignment posted on Study Island that is due by the end of the day on Friday, February 4th!

For the week of January 18th - 21st

Math Classes 1 and 3 will wrap up their algebraic thinking unit by correcting their test and completing an open response. On Wednesday, we will begin our geometry unit. We will begin by learning about two and three dimensional figures. Look for homework on Wednesday and Thursday!

Math Classes 2 and 4 will complete their multiplication and division unit by finishing their test on Tuesday and completing an open response on Wednesday. We will start the algebraic thinking unit on Thursday by learning about addition and subtraction expressions and equations. Be on the lookout for homework on Thursday!

Don't forget that ALL classes have a study island assignment to complete by Friday, January 21st! These assignments can be completed at home or at school.
