The week of March 14-18

Next week classes 1 and 3 will begin a unit on fractions. We will be discussing parts of a whole and parts of a set in the beginning of the week. Later we will be learning about equivalent fractions and how to order and compare them. Be on the lookout for homework every day next week!

Classes 2 and 4 will start their unit on measurement. We will learn about customary units of length and how to convert them. We will also talk about the metric system and how to find the perimeter of an object. This class will have homework this week too!

I challenge you all to make connections at home! Talk to your families about you use fractions and measurement at home. Find out how your parents might use these skills at work. We would love for you to report back to us at school!

March 7-11

First off, I want to apologize for my long absence on my blog! I've had some technical difficulties! I'm back now and here's what we have in store for next week.

Classes 1 and 3 - On Monday and Tuesday we will be working on finding the area and perimeter of objects. This will be a fun two days as we will be doing several hands-on activities. Talk to your families and see if there's ever been a time that you've had to find the area or perimeter for something at home! On Wednesday we will work with temperature and on Thursday we will have a test. It will cover customary units of measurement, converting customary units of measurement, the metric system, area, perimeter, and temperature. Look for a study guide to come home on Wednesday!

Classes 2 and 4 - These two classes will get to experience lots of hands-on activities too! On Monday we will learn to use ordered pairs to find and locate points on a grid. We have a giant coordinate plane on the floor in our classroom. We should have lots of fun being human points! On Tuesday we will learn about rotations, reflections, and translations. On Wednesday and Thursday we will discuss congruent figures and lines of symmetry. On Friday we will complete an open response.
